Purpose of the seminar

This seminar details how a rural English pastime, Mob football, developed into three of the world's most popular sports: association football, rugby union and rugby league.

Learning outcomes

  • Develop specialist understanding of the development and codification of association football, rugby union and rugby league.
  • Learn how these sports spread globally and developed into local football games, such as Australian Rules Football and American Football.
  • Analyse the modern day cultural impact of football.

  • Practical classroom session led by Museum educator.
  • Self-directed tour of the World Rugby Museum galleries.
  • Behind-the-scenes guided tour of Twickenham Stadium.
