Purpose of the workshop

This workshop introduces students to the principles and considerations involved in creating a world class sports facility in a way that encourages teamwork and communication skills. They will need to consider economic, social and environmental factors when making their decisions as a team.

Learning Outcomes

  • Analyse how Twickenham Stadium drives income and revenue for the Rugby Football Union.
  • Assess the environmental impact and financial implications of construction in an urban environment.
  • Explore how financial necessities are balanced against human comfort, and cultural prestige, when planning and developing a modern-day sporting venue.

Activities

  • Practical classroom session led by Museum educator.
  • Self-directed tour of the World Rugby Museum galleries.
  • Behind-the-scenes guided tour of Twickenham Stadium.
