Rugby Strips and Textiles Workshop

Purpose of the workshop

This workshop aims to support hands-on learning and creative thinking by looking at the evolution of rugby apparel from the 1840s to the present. Themes covered will include: an introduction to textiles and fabrics used, the impact of a changing culture on the sport, and the lifestyle of Victorian schoolchildren. All your students need is some enthusiasm and their creative minds.

Develop an understanding of the history and evolution of Rugby football.
Reflect on how craftwork, design and materials used in rugby apparatus have changed in the last 200 years and why.
Examine how societal changes have impacted the sport and the players.

Practical classroom session led by Museum educator.
Self-directed tour of the World Rugby Museum galleries.
Behind-the-scenes guided tour of Twickenham Stadium.
